The Cherubim

Standing in the grotto I was looking for a revelation secretly
my head was pretty heavy like a novice I was thinking stupidly
someone in the past, a little careless, took a little liberty
one moment to the next, things had changed,
and now we’re speaking of him quietly
one moment to the next, things had changed,
we learned our lesson, didn’t we?
Cleaning up the bedroom
I was thinking of the consequences of our needs
I didn’t even vote, instead I comforted my soul
with different means
‘cos who can even tell when at first you fail
or when you finally succeed
one moment to the next, things had changed,
and now you’re sitting on some leather seat
one moment to the next, things had changed,
and now you just want to leave
you just want to leave
Hearing all their problems
makes you wonder why you bother saying anything
just then you remember when you were so much younger,
and you couldn’t sing
and then you ask for wisdom –
a text, a dream, a vision, a sight of the cherubim
one moment to the next, things had changed,
and now you’re going to listen carefully
one moment to the next, things will change
I am waiting
I am waiting

The weather, it was perfect, cool and bright,
un-common for St. Stephen’s Day
I left our house so early, moving like a pilgrim,
like some runaway
somewhere in my body I felt like it would happen,
I felt like just what they say
I turn and face the east, I cross myself,
Lord tell me, is this the way?
I turn and face the east, I was told
Orient is Your Name, ok?

The Seraphim

I am on the land and
she is on the sea
all along the shoreline
we constantly will meet
I bring her uncut diamonds
she brings her pearls for me
we walk along the water
we eat some fruit with cream
I am on the land and
she is on the sea
a bird of paradise
moves over the deep
I carry palms and flowers
and lay them at her feet
we climb into the tower
that stands above the beach
You can see everything that I can see,
can’t you?
I am on the land and
she is on the sea
high and lifted up
above the seraphim
there’s power in the Lord’s hands
there’s light in everything
far up beyond the mountains
Paradise is opening
I think
You can see everything that I can see,
can’t you?
